Used across Europe, the basket-hilted claymore features a cage-like hilt that cradles and protects the fighter's hand, reducing the chance of slipping and guarding against blows. By the 1700s, Scottish swordsmen had adopted the style and frequently padded the basket's interior with fabric.
UPSIDE
